Students recently finished the first Literature Circle session of the year, using several titles from the Junie B. Jones series. Students reviewed the format for Lit Circles for both writing and speaking, and then wrote the dates and assignments for Circles on a schedule sheet. For 4 days, students read the day’s assignment and responded to their reading in writing before, during, and/or after reading – similar to the Reading Logs done at home and at school. They also jotted down points they wanted to discuss with their Circle group. Students used their written responses to start the discussions – but always added more as the chat went on!
