By Hannah, Jacob, and Andrew
Have you ever had a bad time? Well, if you have, you will understand how Meg and her family feel in For This Land by Kate McMullan.
This story takes place in Kansas (also know as K.T.) in 1856 when a young girl had to completely change her life. Meg lived in St. Louis with her cousins George, Charlie, John, and her little sister Grace with their Mother but had to move to Kansas with her family because of a cholera outbreak. When they got to Kansas (a slave state) things were going pretty well… until a prairie fire started!
Oops! We forgot to tell you the main characters. Meg is a homesick girl. Pres is a cool kid. Mother is different depending on the time. And Father is a true soldier! Aunt Margaret is a happy person that always looks at the good side of things. Meg’s cousins George, Charlie and John are like workers. Uncle Aubert is just like father but we think Father is a better soldier for a reason. (you have to read it to find out why) If you don’t believe me check the book out yourself. It’s awesome!
We think you should read For This Land because it is educational, and it is fun to read about Meg’s life. We recommend this book to ages 9 and up. If you do read this book you
will enjoy it a lot. You can probably find this book at your local library or book store.
For This Land has many good statements and details. It is an awesome book. So look for this great book.
