Students worked together to set up a reading schedule for the number of pages to read each day, depending on the number of days available. There are always 2-3 additional days added to the schedule to write book reviews for publication online.

Fourth graders are assessed on their participation in Lit Circle discussion groups, their written responses to daily reading assignments (similar to homework reading logs), and an independently written book review.

Students chose from a variety of popular mysteries for Literature Circles beginning next week – The Mystery of the Phantom Ship, The Mystery of the Haunted Playhouse, The Mystery at Miss Abigail’s, The Key to the Treasure, The Yellow House Mystery, and The Mystery in the Snow.

4K watched a video of several 5th graders participating in a Literature Circle discussion in order to understand how a Literature Circle Discussion should look like and sound like. They are also working on improving the quality of their discussions through the use of higher level thinking and questioning skills.
